Session Judge, Special Court NIA, Imphal West today remanded PREPAK's self styled Sergeant Major Soiraisam Boycha alias Rakesh to judicial custody for his alleged involvement in a deadly ambush on troops of 29 Assam Rifles in which six AR personnel were killed at Hengshi near Joupi village on May 22, 2016 .
Soiraisam Boycha alias Rakesh (32) s/o (L) Samungou Meitei of Sairemkhun Maning Leikai was produced before the Court along with a prayer for judicial custody remand.
According to the IO, a JCO and five other personnel of 29 Assam Rifles suffered fatal casualties in an ambush laid by undergound militants and the ensuing gun fight at a location south of Hengshi near Joupi at around 11.40 am of May 22, 2016 .
Junior Commissioned Officer Baldev Kumar, Havaldar Susarjit Barla, Rifleman Mahesh Singh, Rifleman AK Pandey, Rifleman Pawan Singh and Rifleman Bhupinder Kumar were killed on the spot and three Gypsys were badly damaged.
Further, one Light Machine Gun, 4 AK Rifles and one INSAS Rifle were taken away by the UGs from the deceased soldiers.
During the course of investigation of another FIR case registered at Chakpikarong Police Station, the accused person disclosed that he was actively involved in a deadly ambush carried out by CorCom against 29 Assam Rifles on May 22, 2016 at Hengshi Village.
Subsequently, self styled Sergeant Major Soiraisam Boycha alias Rakesh was formally arrested in connection with the present case.
On further investigation, the accused also admitted the charges levelled against him.
He reportedly revealed that on May 22 around forenoon, he along with 25 cadres of a Joint Fighting Force led by then self-styled Lieutenant Ahingcha of RPF/PLA carried out an ambush on troops of 29 Assam Rifles in the southern part of Hengshi village near Joupi which falls under Khengjoi sub-division Chandel district.
The encounter lasted for around 15 minutes which resulted in the death of one JCO and five other personnel of 29 Assam.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the IO and Special PP and on perusal of the material on record, remanded the accused to judicial custody till July 8 .
