KCC opposes Panchayat election in hill areas

The Kuki Chiefs' Council (KCC), Manipur raised a strong objection against the government's policy to conduct Gram Panchayat election in some hill areas and warned that the council will steadfastly fight against any.
policies intended to snatch tribal land.
According to KCC general secretary Lunjapao Simte, government is planning to conduct Panchayat election for Koubru Laikha, Toribari, Kalapahar and Santolabari Parasain villages of Kangpokpi district by clubbing these villages under Imphal West-I CD Block and the same process is being done for Saiton and Ngairong villages of Churachandpur district by putting these villages in Kumbi assembly constituency.
Apart from these villages, eight Meitei and Bengali localities of Torbung-Kangvai areas have been included under Kumbi assembly constituency and merged into Bishnupur district for holding Panchayat election.
These steps are being initiated to snatch tribal land by conducting Gram Panchayat election and inclusion of tribal villages in the valley districts, he alleged and vowed to fight against the government against policies to snatch away tribal land.
