Imphal, June 27 2022:
A month-long workshop organised under the sponsorship of Ministry of Culture by Chaitanya Institute of Sankirtana culminated at the community hall of Wangkhei Thangjam Leikai here on Monday.
As part of the valedictory function, a production of Astakal Leela (Nata Sankritana) was also presented.
Presided over by musician Khumukcham Chandramani, the closing function was attended by JN Manipur Dance Academy director Pukhrambam Bilash as chief guest and BJYM president M Barish as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Bilash appreciated the contributions of Chaitanya Institute in preserving Manipur's art and culture and Nata Sankritana, while wishing for other organisations to be sincere in their contributions as well.
Every year, UNESCO observes December 4 as Nata Sankritana.
However, the issue at hand is to ascertain whether Nata Sankritana is developing for the better or declining for the worse, especially in the light of fusion by the singers and Pung (drum) artistes during marriage ceremonies and neglect of the set of rules laid down by our forefathers regarding performance of the art form in rituals and other similar types of ceremonies, he observed.
Bilash then appreciated the CM's assistance towards artistes, stating that it will greatly benefit the artistes in the long run.
