Imphal, June 27 2022:
The Department of Social Welfare has informed the public, restaurants, food joints and all others concerned to refrain from giving any intoxicating liquor or narcotic drug or tobacco product or psychotropic substance to children under 18 years of age.
The notification issued by Ngangom Uttam Singh, Director, Social Welfare cautioned that as per the provision under Section 77 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015, anyone found violating the Act will be punishable with rigorous imprisonment for a term of upto seven years and may be liable to a fine which may extend upto Rs 1 lakh.
However, the notification has also made an exception for cases when the substances are administered by a duly qualified medical practitioner.
