Imphal, June 27 2022:
Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) has decried the objections raised on Meetei Mayek, which has already been published in the state gazette following a series of meetings by expert committees and has replaced Bengali scripts in education up to the master's level.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Monday, MEELAL secretary (organisation) Naorem Nongmailembi Leima said that the present script was adopted after a series of discourse by different experts, government officials and academicians.
It was published in the state gazette based on the recommendations of expert committee.
Consequently, the script replaced Bengali script in education up to Master's level.
Moreover, state dailies are preparing to shift towards Meetei Mayek fully from January 2023.In such a situation, it is unfortunate for some individuals or organisations to raise objection, the secretary stated.
Moreover, MEELAL does not want to change the nomenclature from Meetei Mayek, as published in the gazette, to Manipur Mayek, she said, while urging for public participation in promotion of the script and language.
She also hailed chief minister N Biren for his strong remark against the objection raised by certain organisation.
