Imphal, January 16 2023: In another clear case of law enforcing agencies becoming law breakers, five personnel of Kakching Commando unit have been apprehended by Kakching district police along with a huge consignment of contraband drugs.

Briefing media persons at his office today, Kakching SP Shrey Vats said that the five commando personnel who came from Moreh in a Maruti Gypsy were apprehended by a team of Kakching district police at Kuraopokpi near St Joseph English School along NH-102 at around 7.30 am today.

The apprehended men have been identified as Havildar Kh Achouba, posted at Manipur Police Training College, 7th MR Rifleman Th Subhash Chothe, Constable Y Dineshwar Meitei, posted at Imphal West district police 6th MR Rifleman M Premchandra and 6th MR Rifleman N Dorendrajit.

All five of them are currently attached to the Kakching Commando unit and Kh Achouba is the team leader.

Although they were given duties at Moreh for sometime, an order was issued recently whereby they were re-posted at the Special Commando unit, Khabeisoi, the SP said.

As a part of the Government's War on Drugs 2.0, a combined police team led by Kakching Commando unit OC Subedar S Birla, Subedar Ksh Prakash and SI Mothilphun Dangsawa of Pallel police station rounded up the five commando personnel in the course of checking and frisking exercise, Shrey Vats said.

"The combined team of district police was supervised by Addl SPs Binoy Chongtham and A Romendro under my overall supervision", he said.

After the five commando personnel were detained, their Maruti Gypsy was searched by observing legal formalities and one 100 soap cases containing suspected heroin (No 4) were found inside the vehicle.

The suspected heroin powder weighed 1.336 Kg.

Moreover, eight bundles of suspected WY tablets with each bundle containing 10,000 tables approximately were found inside the Gypsy.

The suspected WY tablets weighed 9.151 Kgs.

A sum of Rs 80,000 was also seized from the possession of team commander Kh Achouba.

All five of them have been handed over to Kakching police station along with the seized items for necessary legal action, the SP said.

Notably, there have been cases of arrest of Manipur Police personnel along with contraband drugs not only inside Manipur but also outside the State.

On February 24, 2013, then PIB (Defence Wing) Imphal PRO and five other individuals were arrested by police at Pallel along with drugs worth Rs 30 crore.
