FC Lajong lifts CC Meet trophy

Imphal, December 23 2010: FC Lajong fulfilled their promise to take away the CC Meet trophy as Christmas gift to Shillong after defeating defending champion to lift the winner's trophy of the 54th Sir Churachand Singh KCSI CBE Memorial Football Tournament as the tournament concluded today at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium today.

The All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) is organizing the tournament under the sponsorship of Manipur State Aids Control Society (MACS).

FC Lajong beat TRAU, Kwakeithel 3-0 in the final match played today to lift the winner's trophy which carries a cash award of Rs 1 lakhs.

On the other hand defending champion TRAU had to content with the runners up's trophy which carries ' 50,000 cash award.

Speaking in the closing function as chief guest, Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board, MLA Bijoy Koijam said that the cash prizes of the tournament is outdated.

He assured to discuss the matter with Chief Minister and take up necessary actions to increase the prize money.

He also said that he will use his own money to increase the amount if the condition demands.

Chairman, PDA, MLA Dr Kh Loken presided over the closing function.

Shillong's FC Lajong takes home CC Meet Trophy as a Christmas gift

Renowned player I Nilakumar of Manipur Police Sports Club (MPSC) was honoured with the Male Footballer of the Year award donated family of international referee Elangbam Ibohal.

The award carries ' 15,000 cash award.

The award for Female Footballer of the Year was conferred to Y Kamala of NYTHC, Okram Chuthek.

The award which carries ' 5,000 cash prize is donated by family of Huidrom Arunkumari.

AIM, Khabam Lamkhai bagged the Fair Play Trophy which carries a cash prize of ' 3,000.The award is donated in the name of Major Ng Jaydutta, Vir Chakra awardee.

The award for Best goalkeeper donated in the name of A Palendra which carries ' 2,000 cash prize was conferred to FC Lajong custodian Lalthuam Mawiya.

Thangoulal of KSC won the Best Player's title donated in the name of Byron Angomcha which carries ' 4,000 cash.

The title of Top Scorer donated in the name of A Chitra was given to Thangoulian of NLYC, CCpur and Ch Risk of XI Star Sporting Union.

The award carries ' 2,000 cash.

Juming Lianralte of FC Lajong was conferred the title of Man of the Final Match which carries ' 2,000 cash and was donated in the name of A Surjit.

AfC 'C' licensed S Maniratan won the title of Coach of the Year which carries ' 5,000 cash.

It was donated in the name of Kaminikumar.

The title of Best Defender was conferred to Y Hemanta of TRAU.

The award carries ' 5,000 cash prize and was donated in the name of Konsam Achouba.

Samson Rameng Mawiya bagged the title of Best Midfielder donated in the name of Th Birachandra.

It carries a cash prize of ' 5,000.M Magho, Assistant Referee, FIFA was conferred the title of Best Referee which carries a cash prize of ' 5,000.It is donated in the name of Benudhor.

Asistant Coach, Birendra Thapa of FC Lajong said that his players are all key players.

His team won the match because they scored their goals in the early minutes of the match.

They came here to win the match.

Now he is satisfied that his team has won the title and will bring the trophy to Shillong as gift of the Christmas festival, said a joyous Birendra.

He said that the football fans of the state are very enthusiastic.

His team was supposed to play the match in defensive tactics.

But the inability of their opponents and their goal in the early minute helped them to win the match easily.

He assured to participate in the tournament in the next season also.

He also said that TRAU is a good team.

On the other hand, TRAU coach Surmani said that the mani cause of their loss is the early goals of Lajong and the extraordinary performance of their custodian.

FC Lajong is a very good team of the North East India.

Around 20,000 football fans of the state witnessed the final match played between I league team FC Lajong and defending champion TRAU.

Juming Lianralte of FC Lajong drew the first blood in the 4th minute of the match by heading a corner kick by his team mate Zenith Mashangva.

The first half ended with Lajong leading by one goal against TRAU.

In the second half, TRAU tried their best to equalise the score.

They had chances to strike goal against Lajong.

But the Lajong custodian was too good for them to strike goal.

The second goal of Lajong was scored in the 66th minute of the match by James Giblee the Liberian national.

Striker Anil Gurung scored the third goal of Lajong in the 90th minute of the match.

It may be mentioned that players were issued 70 yellow cards and four red cards during the tournament.
