Imphal, December 23 2010:
A public meeting held today at Karam in connection with the arrest of Wangkhem Jadu (62) of Karam Awang Leikai and Paonam Budhichandra (60) of Karam Makha Leikai by a team of Imphal West commandos on December 20 have resolved to launch mass agitation if the duo are not released at the earliest without any condition.
Wangkhem Jadu is a pensioner of Excise Department while Paonam Budhichandra is Supervisor in Adult Education.
The meeting strongly condemned the act of Imphal West commandos taking Jadu and Budhichandra into their custody on the alleged false charge of being sympathizers of KCP (MC) .
Contending that Jadu and Budhichandra are innocent, the public meeting questioned whether the duo were remanded to police custody for seven days with knowledge of the high-ranking officials of Home Department or whether the duo were arrested under a political conspiracy in cahoot with some police officers.
Reacting to the allegation of some MPP leaders that participants of the meeting pulled down MPP flags and threw them into a ditch, the speakers clarified that Karam people never indulged in such mindless acts nor would they ever do so in future.
Demanding unconditional release of Jadu and Budhichandra, the meeting resolved that Karam people would court mass arrest if the same demand is not fulfilled at the earliest.
