Police has registered a case against the villagers of Lamta village in Tamenglong district alleging them of taking captive 27 labourers from Wangoo area in Bishnupur district.
The 27 labourers all from Wangoo village were reportedly 'hired' by three men on November 16 on the pretext of employing them in timber logging at Khuilong village of Tamenglong district under two local contractors namely Khangbo and Khangpui.
They have been allegedly taken into captivity by villagers of Lamta.
Police registered the case after the son of one of the labourers, Moirangthem Kumarjit, lodged a complaint with the Kumbi police.
The Kumbi police has transferred the case to Tamenglong Police Station as the place of the crime lies within its jurisdiction, a police source said Thursday.
In a complaint, Kumarjit has charged that the villagers of Lamta have illegally confined his father and another 26 others.
