MNCA Luwangpokpa T20 Trophy: UCC trounce YAC by 10 wickets to bolster knock-out chances
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, January 13 2024: UCC-Uripok trounced YAC-Yaiskul by 10 wickets in a low scoring encounter at Moijing Public Ground to boost their knock-out chances and close in on Group C pole position in the 4th MNCA Luwangpokpa T20 Trophy.

YAC had a sloppy start after electing to bat first and were bundled out for 65 runs in 17.5 overs as UCC bowlers were exceptionally brilliant today.

UCC then rode on the opening partnership between Leishangthem Bishorjit 29 and Bicky Kumar Das 32 to finish off the chase in just 6 overs.

YAC were reduced to 11/3 in 3.1 overs as Leishangthem Bishorjit bowled out Joychandra Ngangom 7 and Salam Raju 1 and Pukhrambam Priyokumar was out 'hit wicket' for 3-ball duck in between off the Jenish Pukhrambam's delivery in the third over.

The slump continued with Singhajit Sharma getting trapped lbw by Diamond Moirangthem for 2 runs for the fourth wicket in the 6th over before Laishram Bhuson piled further misery on YAC by getting Abocha holed out to Th Anson for 11 runs and bowling out Amit Maisnam on 3-ball duck in the 1st and the 4th delivery of the 9th over to make it 33/6 .

Even as Indrakumar Wayengbam who came in at four did his best to anchor, he failed to establish any notable partnership and saw his fourt partner Chumthao DK depart for naught in the next over off the Konsam Gulson's bowling before Laishram Bhuson completed his three wicket haul by removing Oinam Kiran for 3 runs in the last delivery of the 11th over.

Priyokumar then got run out in the fourth ball of the 14th delivery as YAC slipped further to 44/9 .

Indrakumar Wayengbam and Huidrom Guneshwor forged a 21 run partnership before Indrakumar was bowled out by Diamond Moirangthem for 29 runs to end the innings.

L Bhuson returned with the best figures of 3/10 in 4 overs of UCC in the innings as Leishangthem Bishorjit 2/15 and Diamond Moirangthem 2/15 finished with two wickets apiece.

In the chase, Leishangthem Bishorjit scored four four on the way to his 18-ball 29 as Bicky Kumar Das clobbered 2 sixes and hit Oinam Kiran for his third four to complete his 19-ball 32 as well as the chase in the last delivery of the 6th over.

The result lifted UCC from third place to second in the Group C table below MPSC who have won six of six matches.

At Model Hr Secondary and Oriental College Ground, YWC-Langthabal capped their Group B campaign with a 4 wicket thrashing of KCC-Kongba for the 6th victory.

The win lifted YWC-L on top of the table from third place they held till yesterday above PCC who have won five of their six matches.

KCC had to regret their decision to bat first as they were bundled out for just 82 runs as Ngangbam Bishwash wreaked havoc across their line up and made the chase easy for YWC-L .

Nongamithem Dijaraj Singh and Rohen Singh gave KCC early flourish and stitched together 44 off 27 deliveries but Yenshenbam Vivek broke the partnership in the 5th over by removing Rohen for 16 .

It proved to be the turning point for the innings as KCC's went downhill as Maibam Subash getting rid of Ningombam Tony for 6-ball duck in the 8th over before Y Vivek bounced back to remove Nongmaithem Dijaraj on innings highest 31 and completed his two wicket haul (2/15 in 4 overs) .

Maibam Subash also completed his two wicket haul (2/7 in 4 overs) but bowling out Thokchom Momocha 0 for the fourth wicket in the 10th over before Ngangbam Bishwash swept four wickets including scalps of Yumnam Sheiteendra 3, Wahengbam Somorjit 0 and Singthoi Nandeibam 0 all in the 17th over to make it 75/9 .

Pukhrambam Prashantamani then set up the KCC collapse on 82 in the fourth delivery of the 19th over by removing Keisham Basantakumar on 10 .

Ngangbam Bishwash returned with the best bowling figures of 4/10 in 4 overs that included a maiden.

In the chase, YWC-L had a stuttering start and were reduced to 50/6 after 13.2 overs despite Seram Robinson's 29 as Singthoi Nandeibam claimed three crucial wickets on the way to his 3/19 finish.

But Sougaijam Robinson 23 not out (off 29 balls, 1 four and 1 six) and Ngangbam Bingson 13 not out (off 13 balls, 2 fours) produced a sensible 7th wicket partnership to take YWC-L to winning 84 in 18.3 overs.
