Bishnupur, January 13 2024:
Bishnupur Akoiba Apunba Lup (BAAL) has accused the government of abetting the ethnic conflict in the state, and asked the government to allow the public to tackle adversary elements if it could not resolve the crisis.
Addressing a press meet at its office in Bishnupur on Saturday, BAAL president L Devachand said that Kuki militants have been carrying out persistent attacks on Meetei villages since May 3.While the common people in the foothill areas are spending sleepless nights, the government is boasting of restoring peace, he said.
The state government has not been doing enough to control the crisis and on the other hand, RPI-A national secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam has been mounting pressures on Central leaders, noted the president, while criticising the state government for failing to send recommendations on ST status for Meetei/Meitei, facilitating balkanisation of the state by earmarking buffer zones, failing to prevent attack by Kuki militants, and murder of innocent civilians including the latest incident that took place at Haotak.
BAAL secretary T Bikram demanded the Central government to reinstate the authority of Unified Command to the chief minister.
He also said that BAAL will support the movement initiated by the JAC formed against the Haotak murder.
BAAL women's wing president O Bina and secretary H Tomshatnabi were also present during the press meet.
