Areca nuts worth around Rs 14 Cr seized

Kamjong, January 13 2024:
Assam Rifles foiled an attempt of cross border smuggling of areca nuts in Kamjong district today.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the illegal transportation of areca nuts in general area of Pillong Market-Kangpat Khunou road track junction, a search operation was launched, said a statement by Assam Rifles.
The column intercepted, 9 trucks illegally carrying areca nuts without valid documents which were intended for unlawful distribution in the black market.
A total of 1480 bags of areca nuts, valued at Rs.14.208 crore, was seized and subsequently handed over to the Forest Beat Officer, Gomnam, Kamjong district.
