Imphal, January 13 2024:
ESU-Wangkhei capped their 14th AMFA Senior Women's Football League with a 6-1 thrashing of Women Football Academy (WFA) at Artificial Turf Ground, Lamlong Thongkhong.
ESU, who won once and drew four times in the last 6 matches, rode on doubles from Longjam Nira and Naorem Henerita to hand the Kakching team fifth defeat in the tournament.
Pukhrambam Sandhiya gave WFA the lead early in the fourth minute but Sanabam Uma Chanu drew level for ESU in the 9th minute before Naorem Henerita overturned the lead three minutes later.
Chandam Anjali then extended the lead to 3-1 after 18 minutes as WFA defence started losing their composure and Naorem Henerita completed her double three minutes into the added time of the first half.
To WFA's disappointment, Longjam Nira scored one more goal before the break to give ESU a 5-1 first half lead.
After the break, Nira scored her second in the 52nd minute and it proved to be the last goal of the match.
Later in the day, FC Imphal played out a goalless draw with KRYPHSA to share a point apiece.
