AR pays tribute to brave-heart majors

Assam Rifles conducted a wreath laying ceremony at Modi village in Chandel district on Thursday, in honour of Major Anurag Srivastava's indomitable spirit and selfless sacrifice in the service of the nation.
Major Anurag exhibited exceptional courage on January 11, 1996, when, based on specific inputs, he rushed to the village of Jagatpura, Kupwara, and cordoned off the area where militants were hiding.
In the ensuing firefight, Major Srivastava neutralised two militants but suffered a bullet injury on his head.
He succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.
Major Anurag Srivastava was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra on August 15, 1996, in recognition of his extraordinary valour.
In Jiribam district, Assam Rifles organised another wreath laying ceremony for Major Santosh Kumar Agnihotri, who sacrificed while battling insurgents nearby Kaimai on January 11, 1998 .
The ceremony commenced with the wreath laying by commandant of the unit and a motivational speech to all ranks narrating the story of the braveheart.
Four officers, 17 junior commissioned officers and 119 other ranks of the battalion paid tribute by laying wreaths & according guard of honour.
Assam Rifles extended heartfelt condolences to the families of major Anurag Srivastava & major Santosh Kumar Agnihotri.
