Kamjong, January 17 2024:
Assam Rifles foiled cross border smuggling of areca nuts in Kamjong district yesterday.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the illegal transportation of areca nuts enroute connecting Shankalok village and border village Aloyo, a search operation was launched.
The column intercepted 8 trucks illegally carrying areca nuts without valid documents purportedly intended for unlawful distribution in the black market, said a statement by the Assam Rifles.
A total of 870 bags (weighing 70 tons) of areca nuts, valued at Rs.8.40 crore was seized and subsequently handed over to the Forest Beat Officer, Gomnam in Kamjong district.
