Eminent Meira Paibi leader laid to rest, many condole

The last rites of eminent woman activist and Meira Paibi leader Longjam Memchoubi, who passed away yesterday, were performed at Ima Kombi memorial site located at Lamphel Sanakeithel this morning.
The late president of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM) was also posthumously conferred with the title of "Lamjingbi Ima" by the public.
Many people from all walks of life offered rich floral tributes to pay their last respects to the brave activist.
Following this, the last rites of the prominent woman activist were performed at Ima Kombi memorial site.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh was also present on the occasion and paid floral tribute to the prominent woman leader.
He later took to X (formerly Twitter) to say that he was "pained by the sudden demise of activist Smt Longjam Mem- choubi" .
He also extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and her followers.

In addition, many organisations have extended their deepest condolences following the unfortunate passing away of noted social activist Longjam Memchoubi yesterday.
Extending their condolences, Manipur Womens' Federation (MWF) stated that the late PLMPAM president was at the forefront of many social as well as political movements in Mani- pur.
She fought relentlessly against AFSPA, protested for implementation of the Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) and so on.
Her contributions to the Manipuri society will remain etched in the annals of history, said MWF.
Meanwhile, at 1 pm today, AMUCO organised a condolence meeting and observed a 2-minute silence to mourn the demise of Long-jam Memchoubi at their office.
AMUCO further recalled the woman activist's contribution in various social issues like the anti-ceasefire agitation of 2001, shifting of Assam Rifles from Kangla and many movements to uphold the territorial integrity of Manipur, including the current crisis.
The Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (Meelal) Kangleipak also observed a two-minute silence to grieve the demise of Longjam Memchoubi during a meeting presided over by Khaidem Ingocha Meetei, president Meelal.
Similarly, a joint condolence meeting was held at Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) head office located at Konung Mamang chaired by Hijam Priyokumar, CADA president.
The condolence meeting was attended by representatives of CADA, UPF, NIPCO, Mapi Council, AMPFA, AMKIL, Nupi Samaj, Tami Chingmi, EECHAL, Thoubal Ema, UPACO, NIMPAL and ANUL.
The gathering proceeded to observe a 2-minute silence to honour the deceased.
Condoling the demise of Longjam Memchoubi, who hailed from Thangmeiband Polem Leikai, Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur stressed on her efforts to stop the youths and men from using intoxicants by becoming a vocal and dedicated proponent of the "Nisha Bandhi" movement.
Her passing is a huge loss to the society, said FOCS.
The Protection and Preservation Committee, Manipur (PPCM) also observed a 2-minute silence to mourn the unfortunate demise of the PPCM advisor at PPCM office located at Wahengbam Leikai around 2 pm today.
Similarly, Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) and Dr Keisham Manibabu Memorial Trust have extended their condolences and shared the grief of the bereaved family.
