Three times MLA elect, Congress leader Tongbram Mangibabu passes away at Shija Hospital today.
He was 75 .
Former Minister T Mangibabu was first elected as a Member of the 6th Manipur Legislative Assembly in 1995 on a ticket of the Janata Dal from Thanga Assembly Constituency.
He served as the general secretary of the Janata Dal, Manipur.
In 1996, he resigned from Janata Dal and joined the Indian National Congress (INC) and served as the Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board in the Congress Government.
In 2007, he was elected to the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly from Thanga Constituency on Congress ticket and served as the Chief Whip.
In 2012, he was again elected to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly from the same Constituency on a Congress ticket.
He also served as the working president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, and he was even jailed for taking part in the demand for Manipur's Statehood during 1968-69 .
He was born in 1948 at Moirangkhunou, under Thanga Assembly Constituency, Bishnupur district.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters.
His mortal remains were brought at Congress Bhavan, Imphal, where CLP leader and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, former Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and MPCC president K Meghachandra and many party leaders paid their last respect.
T Mangibabu's mortal remains were draped in Congress' flag.
The Congress leaders mourned the demise of the former Minister and paid floral tributes to his mortal remains.
CLP leader Okram Ibobi said the demise of T Mangibabu is not only a loss for Thanga Assembly Constituency and the Congress, but for the whole of Manipur.
"He was a dedicated leader of the party, and in his demise, we have lost a sincere and truthful Nationalist.
His contributions towards the welfare of the people when he was a Minister will never be forgotten," said Okram Ibobi.
The CLP leader prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace in heavenly abode and shared the pain and the grief of the bereaved family.
Meanwhile MLA of Thanga AC Tongbram Robindro has condoled the demise of Tongbram Mangibabu , former MLA of the Constituency.
In a message, Robindro said that T Mangibabu was not just a former MLA of Thanga but also a dear relative and brother in every sense of the word.
Saying that the void left by his absence is immeasurable, Robindro continued that the unwavering dedication of the former MLA to the community and his impact on the political landscape of the State will forever echo in 'our heart' .
"My thoughts are entwined with his family and loved ones during this immensely challenging time.
May they find strength in the memories of his kindness and the difference he made," the MLA said and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
