State observes International Day of Girl Child

As in other parts of the world, International Girl Child Day was jointly observed by Directorate of Family Welfare Services Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC & PNDT) Cell and NHM Manipur State Health Society at RD Wing, Lamphel on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Manipur Health Services director Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar expressed that till the society rectifies it notion towards girl child, there will be no gender parity.
Though many women are holding high administrative post today and have successfully implemented major projects and policies, such notable achievements do not reflect gender equality in case the differences in attitude and treatment of the girl child at the grassroots level could not remedied, he observed.
Stressing the need to enlighten elders to lead the society and ensure proper education of girl child, he urged all to avail benefits of various schemes of the government for the welfare and education of girl child.
Delivering the key-note address, PC & PNDT SNO Dr Sujata Huidrom stated that the observance began in 2012 with an aim to bring in gender equality.
She also emphasised on judicious implementation and widespread benefit of various schemes for girl child including Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Balika Samriddhi Yojana, Mukhyamantri Rajshri Yojana, Mukhyamantri Laadli Yojana, CBSE Udhaan Scheme, National Scheme of Incentives for Secondary Education, Mukhyamantri Kanya Suraksha Yojana, etc.
The function was also attended by Family Welfare Services director Dr L Tom-cha Khuman as president and additional director Dr Chambo Gonmei as guest of honour.
Meanwhile, Star Education observed International Day of the Girl Child' on the theme Invest in Girls Rights: Our leadership, our well-being' at Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School, Uripok, here, on Wednesday.
In a release, Star Education informed that the celebration was attended by its managing director Amrita Thingujam, school teachers and students.
Several empowering activities which are in tune with the theme of the celebration were conducted during the programme, it added.
