Imphal, October 11 2023:
Social Welfare minister H Dingo said that the department is in the process of setting up a rehabilitation centre for mentally challenged people.
He made the revelation at the World Mental Health Day observance organised by Centre for Mental Hygiene, Changangei Ucheckon at its premises on Wednesday.
Minister Dingo and secretary of the Centre Ch Pishakmacha attended the event as chief guest and president respectively while social welfare director Ngangom Uttam and RIMS psychiatry department HoD Dr Senjam Gojendro were present as guests of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Dingo stressed the importance of healthy state of mind for both the person as well as the society.
Violence and issues happening across the world have their impact on the individual minds.
At the same time, personal issues are often a major cause of concern as suicidal tendencies develop from depression.
In such a situation, the department has underscored the need for a rehabilitation centre for mentally challenged people and the process is on to establish one soon, he said.
