In a generous gesture, Manipur Police Department has decided to bear all expenditures for food, clothing and education of the three children including a one and half month-old baby, whose parents had died in tragic incidents recently at Langathel under Kakching PS in Thoubal district.
It may be recalled here that Okram Biren (35) of Langathel Mamang Leikai had hacked his wife Babita (26) with an axe to death on April 4.Angered by the murder, the local people lynched Biren the same day.
The two deceased are survived by their three little children namely, Ango (7), Anao @ Nanao (4) and another one and half month-old baby.
To begin with, Addl SP (Law and Order), Thoubal district, Shyamsunder and Officer in-Charge of Kakching PS, O Ibopishak today went to the house of the grandmother of the three children, who has been looking after them since the fateful day, and handed over a sum of Rs 5,000 to her.
While handing over the money to the grandmother, Addl SP Shyamsunder said, the financial help was being given on the advice of DGP, Manipur.
Discussions will be held with the family and people of the local area to work out how much money would be required a month for the three children's food, clothing and education.
A detailed report would be submitted to the DGP.
Then the Manipur Police Department will surely give the monthly required amount to the family, he said.
As regards the three children of Late Biren's first wife Ibemcha, who had been divorced, the Addl SP further said that they would discuss with their senior officers and see what help can be given to them also.
