Imphal, April 10 2010:
Contending that Gunindro was killed in a fake encounter, the joint action committee constituted against the killing has urged upon the Government to punish the AR personnel involved in the killing.
The JAC put their demands to Health Minister Ph Parijat this afternoon as the Chief Minister is out of station.
The JAC, through their memorandum submitted to the Health Minister, demanded institution of a judicial enquiry into the killing, compensation of Rs 10 lakhs, ex-gratia of Rs one lakh and provision of a suitable job to a family member of the deceased.
Following an assurance from the Health Minister that the Government would try to fulfil the demands, the JAC together with the family members claimed the corpse after post mortem at JNIMS today.
Irengbam gunindro (30) of Tera Khamnam Leirak was shot dead last midnight by troops of 28 Assam Rifles at Waithou Chiru in Thoubal district.
The Assam Rifles also claimed that they recovered one 9 mm pistol and a Kenwood radio set from the possession of Gunindro.
However, the JAC has been contending that Gunindro was pulled up by some unidentified persons clad in civilian fatigue who came in a Maruti car from a lane near Cachar Road Athletic Association at about 6 pm of April 8 .
AR's claim that Gunindro was killed in encounter was a baseless and fabricated propaganda.
When Gunindro was pulled up, he had Rs 15,000 with him.
He was an agent of tender marup, the JAC asserted.
Meanwhile, womenfolk staged a protest demonstration at Khamnam Keithel today against the alleged fake encounter in which Gunindro was killed.
