Imphal, April 10 2010:
Kuki Movement for Human Rights (KUMHUR) submitted a memorandum to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi decrying Assam Government's decision to rename NC Hills as 'Dima-Hasao' and the subsequent incident wherein seven innocent demonstrators were injured in police firing.
The memorandum said that KUMHUR is concerned with the move as it amounts to legitimation of the demand of the Dimasas' armed group.
The Kuki body also demanded for awarding punishment to the security personnel involved in the firing that injured seven agitators.
Maintaining that the creations of States/districts on ethnic lines have been the primary factor behind inter-ethnic conflicts, KUMHUR called for a more sensible approach to the issue by taking into account the interests of all sections of the community for the sake of peace and tranquillity.
