Kakching police today detained a couple who allegedly transferred a baby girl taken by them with the promise of adoption from a child adoption placement agency at Kakching in Thoubal district.
The Child Welfare Committee, Manipur is on hectic efforts to trace out the missing girl who was taken away by a couple hailing from Malom Tuliyaima from the Leima Nawa Yaiphakol, a child adoption placement agency in October 2009 .
Secretary of the Child Welfare Committee, Thoubal district branch, Mala Lisham said that the girl born on July 14, 2009 was taken away by a childless couple identified as Chingtham Nandakishore (57) and his wife Sorojini of Malom Tuliyaima under Nambol police station for adoption on October 18 with a complete formality from the adoption placement agency.
Five days after the child was taken away, a team of the adoption placement agency went to the house of the couple where they found the child under their care but when they again visited the house on March 27 last, she was not found in the custody of the couple.
After officials of the agency could not trace out the whereabouts of the girl, they lodged a complaint with the Thoubal branch of the Child Welfare Committee.
Officials of the CWC Thoubal, during the course of investigation into the case, revealed that Nandakishore had handed over the girl again to another individual, a resident of Ukhrul district of Manipur.
In a sudden development, Nandakishore today informed the authority that the whereabouts of the baby.
The baby girl was found transferring to a man hailing from Lamlang village of Ukhrul where the couple handed over through the husband of Sorojini's younger sister called Thembung.
On getting the clue of the baby, the authority of CWC Thoubal through the Kakching police contacted Ukhrul police and rounded up Thembung who later disclosed the individual who took away the baby.
Officials of the CWC Thoubal along with a team of Kakching police immediately proceeded to Lamlang village along with another team of Ukhrul police and recovered the baby from the custody of one LA Wungnam.
As per source, Nandakishore sold out the baby at Rs 11,000 .
On the other hand, CWC of the state Social Welfare Department on Saturday took the responsibility of adoption of a two month old girl who has been orphaned with her two elder brothers after their parents died on March 3.The father of the three children was killed by a mob on the charge of murder of his own wife by chopping with an exe in the morning of March 3, last.
An official of the Social Welfare Department said that the two-month old girl baby was taken by a joint team of the officials of the department and CWC, Thoubal Branch and handed over to the Leima Nawa Yaiphakon-Adoption Placement Agency.
