Imphal, April 10 2010:
An agitated group of people comprising family members and locals of a girl dismantled a restaurant for allegedly assisting in the forcible elopement of the girl with another youngster.
An informed source said the incident took place at around late morning at Thongkhong Lakshmi Bazar under Wangoi P/S in Imphal West district.
The mob protesting alleged involvement of the owner of Friendship Recess Corner restaurant ransacked the fast-food outlet and set aflame the furniture by staking them outside the building.
The source quoting the family members, said that an 18-year-old girl of Thongkhong Lakshmi Bazar eloped with a 24-yearold boy from pombikhok (Sugnu) on April 7 .
As per tradition, the boy's elders/relatives conveyed information about the elopement the very next day.
However, the romantic liaison turned sour when the girl upon her arrival at home confided that she was abducted from the restaurant where certain issues were being sorted out.
It is informed that the boy had been allegedly making repeated calls to the girl's mobile phone after which a meeting between the two was arranged to personally tell the boy not to disturb her in future.
Rather than oblige the girl's proposal the boy has been accused to abducting her for which the restaurant was targeted.
Moreover, based on a complaint filed by the girl's father at Wangoi police station two youngsters have been taken into custody, the source maintained.
