Imphal, April 10 2010:
An awareness programme on "Urban Health Matters" was conducted in the auditorium of Sainik School on 10 April 2010 under the aegis of Indian Medical Association.
It was organized by the school as a part of observance of the World Health Day 2010 .
Its main purpose is to sensitize the cadets about various health problems caused by urbanization and its effects to environment.
In this connection, a team of experts led by Dr Kh Palin, President of Indian Medical Association, Manipur State Branch visited the school and gave a series of lecture.
The experts said that increase in suicide rate and natural calamities like earthquake, flood, etc are due to urbanization.
Economic development, advancement in Science & Technology, carcinogens and toxic pollutants lead to environmental degradation to a large extent.
They also interacted with the cadets and it made them aware of the immediate need and long term measures to repair the deformed environment for a better tomorrow.
The paintings drawn by cadets drawn by cadets in 'Open Painting Competition" held on 07 April 2010 were also displayed and prizes were distributed to the winners.
Gp Capt Surinder Singh, Principal of the School gave mementoes to Dr Kh Palin, Th Bhogen, Jr Scientist, Environment & Ecology Wing, Govt of Manipur and Dr L Sanjay Meitei, Lecturer in Environmental Science, DM College of Science who spoke as resource persons as a token of remembrance.
