Taking serious note on the raising abuse of drugs and alcohol among the youths of the state, resource persons talking at an awareness campaign of the All Manipur Anti-Drug Association today cautioned of vanish of the society if the present trend of youth addicting in drugs and other intoxicant items.
The awareness programme was part of AMADA's academic awareness programme conducted at Secret Heart School in which students and teachers of the school attended.
Principal of the school, W Rabindra, psychiatrist of Bishnupur district hospital, H Angomcha and advocate Y Romola were in the dais of the awareness programme.
Dr H Angomcha who talked on the "Substances abuse in school/college going students and effect of psychotropic drug in the body" observed increasing trend of abusing of drugs, alcohol and other intoxicant items by the youths.
He said that youths of the state are dominating by drugs, alcohol and other intoxicant items.
In this condition, people remaining silent with no member in their families addicted in these abusive items may lead the society in the verse of extinction.
The resource person also observed that the addiction was from youths wanted to test the drugs and from friends who are addicted in one or other intoxicant items.
In his key note address, deputy secretary (HRD), Tombi Leima of the association also expressed apprehension of vanishing Manipur society due to widespread addiction of youths in drugs and other intoxicant items.
She also said that AMADa is trying to save the youths of the society from drowning to these abusive items with policies and programmes of its own in association with other NGOs.
The academic awareness programme in schools aimed at saving students from these abusive items through understanding on the evil of the abusive items, she added.
