Army aids survey team, relief camps

As part of the confidence building measures and step towards resettlement, the Indian Army columns of Red Shield Division provided assistance to Imphal East district's Agricultural Cultivation Assessment Team for damage assessment and progress on cultivation in the region.
According to PRO (Defence Wing), the Agriculture Team was required to physically verify paddy fields which could not be cultivated due to security situation in the state post eruption of ethnic clashes in May.
An Aerial/Drone survey was required for damage assessment to be submitted to the government in order to provide compensatory package scheme for affected farmers for which the Army columns provided all necessary assistance.
The assistance including area domination and drone support were provided for the aerial survey of cultivation in the villages of Moirangpurel Bowl to include the villages of Itham, Tumokhong, Keithelmanbi, Monthou, Nungbrang, Bongbal Khullen and Moirangpurel as part of confidence building measure, the PRO informed, adding that the district administration appreciated the efforts of the Indian Army and thanked them for the kind support.
Meanwhile, to alleviate the hardships of Internally Displaced People (IDP) in relief camps at Phubala and Sunusiphai in Bishnupur district, Red Shield Division of Indian Army extended support by providing commercial platforms to their handicrafts products in Welfare Shops of Military Stations.
According to PRO (Defence Wing), Army units deployed in Bishnupur district started sourcing their requirements like candles and other articles from these relief camps, providing a much needed market for them.
Indian Army also provisioned candle making machines to women folk in the relief camps thus providing them with an opportunity for self-employment and a source of income in the festive season, the PRO added.
Informing that the initiative by Indian Army will further boost the demahd for local handicrafts products, the PRO said that the service of the Indian Army received high praise from the local populace.
