AR nabs 25 UGs, deports 50 Myanmarese

Imphal, November 11 2023:
Troopers of 23 Assam Rifles reportedly apprehended 23 insurgents including cadres of Manipur-based and Myanmar-based groups, who were respectively operating from the neighbouring country and part of the rebel forces fighting against the military junta.
According to reliable sources, a gunfight broke out in the area near the Indo-Myanmar Border pillar number 61/62 .
After the gunfight, the 23 insurgents of two groups were apprehended by AR from the Manipur side, the sources conveyed.
At the time of filing this report, no report has been received of the 23 insurgents being handed over to the police.
Meanwhile, troopers of 5 Assam Rifles reportedly sent back Myanmarese nationals including women and children, who fled into Manipur owing to the recent surge in gunfights between Myanmar military and rebels, safely to the neighbouring country.
The military junta had been engaging in heavy gunfights with the rebel group Chin Defence Force (CDF) close to Manipur sector of the Indo-Myanmar border for the past few days.
In one of the gunfights, the rebel forces attacked the Myanmar military camp near Border Pillar no 72 and took control of the camp.
Owing to these gunfights, many civilians in the area fled into Manipur for their lives.
According to an informed source, the fleeing Myanmarese sought refuge at the camp of 17 Assam Rifles in Salluk village under Chakpikarong sub-division, Chandel district from where they were escorted by 21 AR till the Moreh post of 5 AR.
After serving them food, troopers of the 5 AR team safely handed over the civilians to the Myanmar army around 10.30 pm on Friday.
