Onus on AYUSH & Health Dept to lower NCD: Dr Ranjan

While informing that the ministry concerned is trying its best to lower the number of Non-Communicable diseases (NCDs) in the country, currently at 65 per cent, Health and Family Welfare minister Dr S Ranjan Singh stressed the need for AYUSH and Health Department to collective endeavour for lowering the NCD rate, in addition to informing the masses about the benefits of Ayurveda.
Speaking as the chief guest of the 8th Ayurveda Day 2023 organised by National AYUSH Mission, Directorate of AYUSH at Hotel Imphal, here, on Saturday under the theme "Ayurveda for One Health", Dr Ranjan noted that value and importance of traditional method of medicine is increasing these days with Ayurvedic form of treatment also gaining momentum.
It has become an alternative method of treatment which we need to promote with greater enthusiasm, he added.
Dr Ranjan maintained that the observance of Ayurveda Day signifies the importance of Ayurveda in curing many illnesses afflicting human beings.
Ayurve'da therapy includes herbal medicines, special diets, meditation, yoga, etc.
Manipur is also a state with rich medicinal plants.
The Department of AYUSH is focusing on promotion of plants of medicinal values which are found in the state, he complimented, while appealing to the Department officials to work together to promote AYUSH sector and bring it to a new high.
Regarding NCDs, the health minister stated that the government and the Ministry take the 65 per cent NCD affliction rate in the country seriously.
He then suggested availing Ayurvedic treatment to lower the NCD rate.
Both AYUSH and the health department need to work together in all hospitals and dispensaries to lower the NCD rate, he asserted.
Presiding over the function, commissioner cum secretary (Health & Family Welfare) Pradeep Kumar Jha said that Ayurveda is one of the oldest forms of medicinal practice and treatment.
The word AYUSH is a combination of Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy.
As such, mainstreaming of this system is required.
The central government has opened a separate Department of AYUSH recognising its value and importance, he pointed out.
AYUSH, Manipur director Dr Akoijam Lokendro Singh and Directorate of AYUSH, Lamphelpat, EC NAM member secretary/state AYUSH officer Dr S Bishwanath Sharma also attended the event as guests of honour, along with ex-ofhcials, officials and staff of the Department and others.
A tribute was offered to Lord Dhanvantari who is considered to be the doctor of Gods.
A technical session was also organised after the formal event was over.
