Myanmar rebels, Manipur insurgents exchange fire

Cadres of a Myanmar rebel group who are waging war against the Myanmar military junta and some Manipur (Meitei) insurgents were locked in a heavy gun battle in between border pillar numbers 61 and 62 along Indo-Myanmar border last night.
BP nos 61 and 62 are close to Bongjang and Jangnomphai villages of Chakpikarong sub-division, Chandel district.
Sources informed that there were casualties on both sides.
It is suspected that around 26 Meitei insurgents who crossed into Manipur (India) in the wake of the gun battle were arrested by Indian military forces.
The 26 Meitei insurgents arrested by the Indian military belong to PREPAK and another group.
Those belonging to the second group have been identified as Lt Irom Sathouhanba alias Ngongo of Yairipok Laikhong Mayai Leikai, 2nd Lt Ningthoujam Kanta alias Khongleithuba of Samram Makha Leikai, Sgt Maj Salam Suranjoy alias Kumdamba of Kumbi Salan Konjil, Sgt Tengbangba, Sgt Leibakmacha, Sgt Nonglenkhomba, Cpl Khurailakpa, Private Sanabam Robert alias Nonglei, Private Moirangthem Tamchinglen alias Premananda of Langathel Mayai Leikai, Private Mayangmayum Salim alias Amir of Sora Maning Leikai, Private Oinam Kankhatpa alias Amarjit of Keirenphabi Mamang Leikai and Private Soibam Lamnganba alias Parikanba of Dibong Khunou, Jiribam.
On the other hand, People's Defence Force (PDF) cadres carried out a massive attack at a Myanmar army camp located at Khampat in Sagiang region on Friday morning.
After engaging the PDF cadres in an intense gun battle, around 50 people including 26 Myanmar soldiers crossed into the Indian side, said the sources.
As Assam Rifles troops guarding the border came across the fleeing Myanmar people, the troops detained and verified them.
It turned out that the fleeing people are Myanmar army personnel and their families, conveyed the sources.
Subsequently, the AR troops brought the fleeing Myanmar people to Moreh before they were handed over to the top officers of Myanmar army today.
