Imphal, November 11 2023:
Lamyanba NK Sanajaoba Ningshing Thoupang Lup under the aegis of NK Sanajaoba Memorial Trust organised the 28th death anniversary observance of the late public figure at LP School Ground, Singjamei Wangma Torban Kshetri Leikai on Saturday.
Former member of Manipur Human Rights Commission and senior journalist Yambem Laba, retired IAS RK Nimai and advisor of Macha Leima and Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) Kh Anandi attended the event as presidium members.
Former UG leader RK Meghen, who was also present at the function, said that there has always a state of disunity among the Meetei community for several years.
The present crisis is a crucial stage for the community as this is not a war for individuals but for the whole community and its future.
This is the time to sort out the differences and work in a coordinated manner among outlawed as well as CSOs, Meira Paibi Lups and the Government of Manipur.
This is not an appeal to consolidate into a single entity but a call for taking a united stand by rising above their ideological differences, he said.
Even though it has been more than six months since the crisis began, a solution is not in sight since there is no clear objective of the Government of India.
Skirmishes will continue every now and then between the two communities and people will continue to suffer, Meghen said, adding that he sees the position of the Government of India as an attempt to demoralise the Meetei community or weaken the community.
Despite having a popular government in the state, the government of India is curbing the former's power even though there is no President's Rule.
The public should understand this strategy and act accordingly, he said.
Meghen further said that NK Sanajaoba was a renowned journalist, who led investigative journalism in the northeast region.
Lamyanba is a right title bestowed upon him and he made crucial contribution in strengthening the revolutionary movement during his time.
He was a brave, relentless and righteous person.
His writings in the column 'Yukhal Marum' in Lamyanba journal showed his journalism works against social evils including corruption and nepotism; and shown the right path to the youth.
His life was full of challenges and he was booked under NSA.
There were many attempts to suppress his voice either through bribery or threat but he stood against all those attempts.
He was a revolutionary journalist who stood for the truth and the society needs journalists like him, he elaborated.
Floral tributes were paid to the portrait of NK Sanajaoba on the occasion.
A one-minute silence was also observed in honour of those killed in the current crisis while defending the state's territory.
