Dingo stresses harmony between Govt and media

Social Welfare minister Heikham Dingo has called for better coordination between media and different government departments in order to ensure that benefits of various government schemes reach the targeted population.
Speaking at a media sensitisation programme organised by All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) as part of the golden jubilee celebration of under the aegis of Social Welfare Department at Manipur Press Club, here, on Saturday, the minister commended the role of media in delivering valuable information to the public in diverse sector including current affairs and developmental initiatives.
Though the Social Welfare Department is implementing different welfare programmes for the public, it alone cannot create mass awareness about these schemes and their benefits, conceded the minister while reiterating the need for better coordination between the department and media to effectively relay relevant information to the public.
Dingo also underscored the importance of better relationship between the government and the public in order to bring development and a better society, for which the media also has a big role to play.
Media as an independent institution also plays a major role in promoting peace and tranquillity in the society, said the minister, who also deliberated at length on the welfare measures taken up by the department for people displaced by the ongoing crisis in the state.
AMWJU president Bijoy Kakchingtabam presided over the event which also had Social Welfare director Ng Uttam as the guest of honour.
In the technical session, Social Welfare joint director (ICDS) Bantee Singh Konthoujam spoke on 'Welfare Programmes for Children and Women' while deputy director L Dhaneshwar elaborated on 'Welfare Programmes for the Aged and Persons with Disabilities" as resource persons.
An interaction session between the resource persons and media was also facilitated.
