Bodies condemn murder of students, SF excesses

Many continue to condemn the cold blooded murder of two innocent students in captivity by Kuki militants and use of excessive force by security forces to control community members seeking justice for victims of violence.
In separate releases, Centre for Research and Advocacy, Manipur, Indigenous Development Mission and Committee on Human Rights (COHR) denounced the merciless killing of Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit by Kuki militants.
They demanded arrest and punishment of the culprits immediately and also urged both state and central governments to update the public about status of the case and show utmost transparency and honesty in handling the case, and the CB1 must inform the public about the effort being made to arrest the culprits.
Moreover, they denounced the excessive use of force by security forces on young students protesting the merciless killing of the two students.
Random use of pellet guns and firing of live round by security forces which inflicted serious injuries on young students and threatening their lives tantamount to violation of right to life.
The government should take urgent steps to control the violence and take steps to restore peace as well as protect the indigenous people and civil liberties in Manipur, they demanded.
