Imphal, June 10 2023:
Students of Churachandpur Medical College (CMC), who left the college in the wake of the communal violence, on Saturday submitted a mem-orandum to Governor Anusuiya Uikey seeking her help to make arrangement for conducting physical and practical classes of the students pursuing MBBS course at the college.
Speaking to newspersons on their way to submit the memorandum at Raj Bha-van, CMC student Th Mangal informed that around 95 out the total 99 students of the medical college are from the valley.
However, considering the prevailing law and order problem, it would be unsafe for them to go back to Churachandpur and continue their studies.
While pointing out that RIMS, JNIMS and SANS have commenced their classes on May 22 and that medical colleges will be conducting the examination under Manipur University, he said non- re-sumption of classes for CMC has triggered panic amongst the students of failing to complete the syllabus in time.
Thus, the memorandum is being submitted to urge the governor to see to the resumption of classes for CMC students in a safe location, Mangal reasoned.
In response, the Governor expressed her concern for the students and assured that probable measures will be taken up to normalise conduct of classes, while further adding that steps are being tak-en up to prevent violence and restore peace and normalcy in the state, Mangal conveyed.
Mangal then informed that that the students had earlier met with health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan, who assured to commence the classes as soon as pos-sible.
He suggested that the classes to be conducted either in JNIMS or at RD Wing in Lamphel, or at MU campus if the previous two options are not suitable.
