Keibul relief camp facing food shortage

Imphal, June 10 2023:
Amid the unceasing cycle of violence, a relief camp set up at Shri Shri Radha Gov - ind Mandir Mandap in Keibul village of Bishnupur district facing acute shortage of food.
The relief camp managed by VYDO, Keibul Lamjao has around 70 internally displaced people.
Even though the gov-ernment including union min-ister Amit Shah himself assured adequate supply of food items and other relief materials, the Keibul temporary facility is on the verge of skipping meals for the inmates, a mix of children, women and elders.
According to VYDO president Salam Sarat, the camp was set up on May 8 and has been pro-viding shelter to nearly 100 per-sons, who fled their homes in Churachandpur as well as from villages in Bishnupur district adjacent to Churachandpur district after their homes were burned by Kuki mob backed by armed Kuki militants.
The organisation has been running the relief camp with support from different NGOs, organisations, clubs and indi-viduals.
So far, no assistance has been received from the government.
With number of internally displaced people increasing, it is facing acute shortage of food and clothes, especially linens.
Mentioning about the shortage the relief camp is facing, he drew at-tention of the government to provide some relief materials to the camp at the earliest.
Meanwhile, a COCOMI team led by its assistant coordinator Joychandra Konthoujam vis-ited the relief camp on Friday and provided some food items, mattresses and buckets.
The COCOMI team also provided similar items to another relief camp managed by YICCL Club Keibul Lamjao Makha Leikai.
