Imphal, June 10 2023:
Likening the ongo-ing crisis in the state to the Burmese (Awa) occupation of Manipur in the early 19th Century, Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam said that the armed Kuki militants should not take the Meeteis for granted as the Meetei youth will never accept bifurcation of Manipur.
The MLA handed over an amount of Rs 3,43,850 to Langthabal Kendra Peace Committee for assistance to the violence-affected and displaced people.
The amount was pooled in by supporters of the MLA from across the 40 polling stations in Langthabal assembly con-stituency.
Speaking at the simple hand-over event held at Chajing Mairenkhong on Saturday, the MLA divulged that the peace committee formed on May 5 has so far provided relief materials worth around Rs 9 lakh to over 40 relief camps.
Be-sides, general public of the constituency as well as he himself also provided relief materials to several relief centres, he said.
MLA Shyam emphasised that all indigenous commu-nities of Manipur should un-derstand who designed and executed the present crisis in the state and take a united stand.
The Kuki militants should not take the Meetei people for granted as the common people will retaliate when they (militants) launch armed attack on innocent civilians including children and elderly.
The militants should stop such inhuman activities immediately failing which the outcome would not be good, he cautioned.
