Arambam Somorendro Martyrdom anniversary observed

Arambam Somoren-dro Memorial Trust and So-cial Standard Club, Khurai Nandeibam Leikai on Satur-day jointly observed the 23rd Lamyanba Arambam So-morendro martyrdom anni-versary at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai, Salanthong where he breathed his last.
Social activists including Rk Sanayaima, CSO lead-ers, members of the trust and people took part at the observance and paid flo-ral tributes to the statue of Somorendro erected near Salanthong.
Those who spoke at the tribute event recalled the role and activities of So - morendo as social activist and author for the welfare of the people and spreading the ideas of independence, working towards uniting hills and valley and preserv-ing the culture and literature of Manipur.
Similar observance was also organised by Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF) Ma-nipur by paying floral trib-utes at the bust of Arambam Somorendro at Nungshikol Park, Lamlai.
Delivering the keynote address, PAWF secretary Rakesh Naorem said So-morendro was a multifac-eted leader and an individual who sacrificed for the land.
The observance is conducted annually to make the people and the young generation in particular aware about his ideas, he added.
On the other-hand, Keis-hamthong Kang Cultural Or-ganisation (Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai) won the 24th Arambam Samaren-dra Ningsing Kang Tourna-ment 2033 while Marambam Kangkhut Hiyanglam bagged the runners up title.
The tournament organised by Wabagai Awang Leikai Youth Development As-sociation (WALYDA) from May 23 to June 10 was held at Wabagai Awang Leikai community hall.
The valedictory function of the tournament along with the death anniversa-ry observance of Arambam Somorendro was held with Manipur Kang Association president Meikam Jadumani as chief guest, WALYDA Wa-bagai Awang Leikai president Mayengbam Ranjit Luwang as president and advocate Yumnam Devadutta as guest of honour.
