Imphal, June 10 2023:
The All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) held a meeting with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today and deliberated on ways to bring peace in the State.
Speaking to media persons after their meeting with Himanta Biswa Sarma who is also the convenor of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) at Hotel Classic Grande, AMUCO president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang said the meeting focused on the urgent need to bring peace and normalcy in Manipur.
"On Himanta's question about creating a conducive atmosphere and its basic requirements, we underscored the importance of driving back the Kuki militants from Myanmar who have been attacking Meitei villages together with Kuki militants under SoO, and also the need to ensure that SoO militants strictly adhere to the ground rules", Nando said.
Apart from questioning the Government of India's inaction when militant groups under SoO have been blatantly violating the ground rules, the AMUCO team reportedly told the NEDA convenor that normalcy can be restored to some extent if the SoO ground rules are enforced strictly.
The protracted violence is basically about relentless offensive by Kuki militants and illegal immigrants against one community and retaliation by the particular community, Nando said.
"You are a key leader of the North East.
You must be knowing the history of the North East.
You must be knowing who are Meiteis, who are Nagas, who are Ahoms and who are Kukis", the AMUCO team told Himanta Biswa Sarma.
"For you know the history of Manipur, we expect you to take some tangible actions", they told the NEDA convenor.
The AMUCO team categorically told the NEDA convenor that peace can be restored in Manipur only if the Government of India works with sincerity and normalcy will remain a far dream if the Government of India is not sincere, Nando Luwang said.
Highlighting the State's prevailing situation demands special attention of the Central Government, COCOMI urged Himanta Biswa to take up necessary steps so that the Centre initiates some concrete actions to restore normalcy in Manipur.
The Forum for Restoration of Peace appealed to the NEDA convenor to facilitate creation of a State level peace committee.
