Lions Club celebrates founder's birth anniversary

Lions Club of Imphal celebrated the 145th birth anniversary of Lions Club founder Melvin Jones at the service centre of the club at Sangaiprou, Imphal on Saturday by offering floral tributes to the founder's portrait.
Melvin Jones, a Chicago business leader, founded the Lions Club in 1917 with a vision to create a service organisation that would encourage individuals to contribute to their communities.
The Lions Club International has since grown into a global humanitarian network.
With over 1.4 million members belonging to approximately 48,000 clubs across 200 countries and geographical areas, the Lions Club has become one Of the world's largest service organisations.
The organisation focuses on various charitable initiatives, including vision and health programmes, disaster relief, youth outreach, and community development.
Melvin Jones' legacy lives on through the Lions Club, which continues to unite individuals worldwide in their commitment to serving and making a positive impact in their local and global communities.
A diabetes detection and awareness camp was also held under the theme 'beat diabetes' at the centre.
The camp was organised under 'One Multiple One Activity' project of the club, during which around 60 persons were provided diabetes screening service.
An eye screening OPD was also organised as part of its permanent project, on the occasion.
