Thoubal DC, DNO assess condition of relief camps

Thoubal deputy commissioner A Subhas along with District Nodal Officer, Relief & Disaster Management A Shivadas and AC to DC K Lenin visited four relief camps in Thoubal district on Friday, where a total of 1,112 inmates are taking shelter.
Speaking to media persons, DC A Subhas informed that district administration has been taking up various income generating programmes like candle-making, incense-stick making, mushroom production and Kouna craft for resi dents of the relief camps.
The relief camp at Kodompokpi Sports Complex has already started production of candle under the brand name "Yening" while training on Kouna craft is being conducted for the inmates of Rice Research Station Khangabok Wangbal, he said and informed that marketing of the end products is done by the district administration.
According to A Shivadas,* agriculture & sericulture de-artments have tied up for iring of manpower on daily wages basis from the relief camps.
Inmates are hired by local farmers on daily wage basis for agricultural activities.
As part of the initiatives taken up by the government, Manipur Society for Skill Development has started 'Relief Camp Skill Aspiration Survey' for the inmates for trade identification and for providing further training programmes, he said.
Distribution of special job cards under MGNREGA has started to inmates.
Full security arrangement has also been made for the relief camps with partition of halls at Kodompokpi Sports Complex initiated by the district administration for family-wise accommodation, the nodal officer elaborated.
It is said that for the first phase, 42 families will be allotted separate rooms in the complex while about 99 inmates from Heirok Higher Secondary School will be brought to Kodompokpi Sports Complex within two or three days.
Inmates in the relief camp expressed their happiness at initiating various programmes by the district administration to generate their income.
Some inmates stated that they got some relief from the ongoing crisis by engaging in activities like candle, incense making and Kouna craft.
