Mass public rally lined up on Jul 29

Imphal, July 25 2023: The Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) is all set to hold a mass public rally on July 29 against narco-terrorism.

Addressing the media at Lamphelpat today, COCOMI coordinator Jeetendra Ningombam said that the rally will be taken out even if the Government puts restrictions on it.

He said that the July 29 rally aims to make the voice of people on State's unity heard and also to let the people of the world and all the elected representatives of India know about the situation in Manipur and the root cause behind it.

Saying that the "Mass Rally Against Chin-Kuki Narco Terrorism in Manipur" will begin from THAU Ground in Thangmeiband at 10 am and proceeds towards Khuyathong, Nagamapal, Wahengbam Leikai, Keishampat, Keishamthong, Moirangkhom and culminate at Hapta Kangjeibung and a public meeting will follow, Jeetendra appealed to all people including sportspersons and students to take part in the rally.

"We must let the world know about the narco-terrorism in Manipur," he said.

Kuki terrorists and their associates are still using different tactics and spreading propaganda to fulfil their aspiration of disintegrating Manipur, he claimed.

Saying that these Kuki terrorists are scheming to malign the image of Manipur which has a history spanning thousands of years, Jeetendra said that there are also some National leaders who have been portraying the State in a bad light.

Some Central leaders are taking the side of Kukis without understanding the ground situation, he claimed.

It is the armed militants from Myanmar who triggered the ethnic clash, Jeetendra continued and added that these illegal immigrants have also been scheming to make the relationship among the indigenous communities toxic to accomplish their nefarious goal.

He then asked why the Central leaders are still silent even after knowing the role of illegal immigrants and narco-terrorists in Manipur violence.

The response of the Indian Government, which claims to be against narco-terrorism, to Manipur violence is disappointing, he continued.

He urged the Government of India not to hold any kind of talks with the illegal immigrants and Kuki militants who indulge in the work of narco terrorism.

Jeetendra further urged the Government to convene a special session of the State Assembly and take a concrete stand to protect the unity and integrity of Manipur.

Somorendro Thokchom, media coordinator of COCOMI, said that it was also the Meeteis who rescued the two women who were paraded naked by a group of people.

What is the purpose of deploying all these Central forces if they couldn't protect lives and properties, he asked and questioned if the Central security forces are here to safeguard the Kuki militants or the citizens of this country.

He said that a resolution to root out narco-terrorism from Manipur should be taken during the Monsoon session of the Parliament.

Any demand to establish a homeland of illegal immigrants should not be entertained, he added.Somorendro further said that the Government shouldn't put any restriction on the proposed rally of July 29 in the same way they allowed the Tribal Solidarity March of May 3 .
