Committee or violence-hit families formed

Internally displaced Meiteis, whose houses were burnt down by Kuki militants during ethnic clashes since May 3 and presently taking shelter in relief camps formed a committee named Rehabilitation Committee for Victimised Families of Manipur by Kuki Militants' on Tuesday.
Speaking to media persons at Federation of Civil Society Organisation (FOCS) office located at Wangkhei Ningth em Pukhri Mapal, convenor of the newly formed committee Thoiba Ningthouja denounced that the attacks on Meitei villages located in foothill areas and burning of houses and properties by Kuki militants.
Thousands of Meiteis fled from their villages and are taking refuge in relief camps set up in different areas, he pointed out, while stating that the main objective of the committee is to take up initiative for the internally displaced people in rehabilitating to their original homes.
While informing that he is also a displaced person, Thoiba stressed the need for participation of displaced people in discussing about their welfare decision made by the government or any concerned stakeholders without their participation may not yield the desired result, he maintained.
While urging the state government to discuss and endorse suggestions of the committee when initiative for rehabilitation of the displaced people is taken up, he stressed the need not to take any decision hastily without the committee.
Meanwhile, Ningthou-jam Phulindro has been appointed as chairman of the committee while Ksh Ibungo, L Kamal, Keisham Francis, Maibam Inaobi are the co-convenors.
