Imphal, July 25 2023:
The Federal Students' Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK) has urged the Government to trace the whereabouts of two students who are missing since July 6 and hand them over to their respective guardians at the earliest.
Phijam Hemanjit of Takyel Kolom Leikai and Hijam Luwangbi Linthoingambi of Tera Tongbram Leikai are missing since July 6 and they were reportedly last seen at Nambol.
After they went missing, their phones were reportedly detected at Kwakta and in Churachandpur.
FESOK, in a statement, said it is unfortunate to see the Government's lack of interest in finding them and taking up necessary measures.
Decrying violence on innocent women and students, the student body also appealed to the two feuding sides to observe internationally accepted humanitarian law and refrain from violence on women and students in any case.
FESOK also decried State's security status as the duo went missing despite deployment of more than 70 thousand Central and security personnel in the wake of the ongoing ethnic crisis.
They remained untraceable due to the Government's lack of commitment and negligence, it charged.
The student body also took note of the exodus of Meiteis from Mizoram following the emergence of a viral video of the May 4 incident coupled with the intensified propaganda of violence and suppression of Christians in Manipur.
Many of those fleeing the neighbouring State are College and University students whose examination is forthcoming, it said while appealing to the State Government to do the needful to ensure their academic careers are not affected.
Ironically, only a handful of Kukis left Imphal for hills in the face of the outbreak of the communal clash on May 3 while a huge chunk of them left for metros and other cities, it noted.
These rich people continue to peddle lies and propaganda on the prevailing situation on social and mainstream media unabated and seek all possible allies putting the Meiteis in the wrong light and rendering them vulnerable.
As such, the Meiteis taking up residence in different Indian cities should be very cautious, said FESOK while urging the State Government to communicate with their counterparts in different cities and ensure safety of Meiteis living there.
