The semi-final line up of the 67th State Open Badminton Championships-2023 organised by the Manipur Badminton Association at Indoor hall in DMU campus has been completed today.
L Unilkumar of Thoubal will play Bidyasagar Salam of Imphal West in the first semi-final tomorrow before H Malemnganba of Bishnupur play M Sirzeet of Imphal East in the other semi-final match.
Malemnganba booked the first semi-final ticket today by easily beating his compatriot O Aimson 21-13, 21-8 this afternoon.
Later in the second quarter-final match, Sirzeet M edged out Ch Ritesh of Imphal West 21-18, 15-21, 21-12 .
In the third quarter-final match played in another court simultaneously, L Unilkumar knocked out K Dingku of Bishnupur 21-17, 18-21, 21-16 in a see-saw contest.
Elsewhere, Bidyasagar Salam eased past Jomi Singam of Imphal East 21-14, 21-10 to complete the semi-final line up.
Earlier in the pre-quarter final matches, Malemngnanba outlasted Kakching's L Dinesh 21-11, 21-12 while Sirzeet M downed S Manishana of Thoubal 21-12,
21-5 .
L Unilkumar also breezed past Pfoki Liruna of Senapati 21-8, 21-8 before Bidyasagar Salam knocked out Rana Kumar Boruah of Imphal West 21-5, 21-14 to reach quarter finals.
Later, Ksh Maheshwari Devi of Imphal West became the first to enter the semi-finals of the women's singles competition as she eased to a 21-14, 21-13 win over Leonie Tayenjam of Imphal East in the first quarter final match.
Stage set for quarter finals of Men's doubles competition
The pre-quarter final matches of the men's doubles competition were also completed today.
Eminent doubles pair from Bishnupur district K Dingku and Kh Manjit strode into the quarter finals of the competition with a 21-14, 21-10 win over Imphal West duo- Ch Ranjan and Ch Ritesh this morning before RK Ronald and Vikson Singh of Imphal West eased to a 21-14, 21-17 win over IE and IW pair of N Avinash and Th Hursh in the next match.
In the other pre-quarter final encounters, Thoubal pair of Bidyachandra Kh and Sh Gung outlasted Imphal West pair of K Sandeep and T Dingku 21-16, 21-16; Bishnupur pair of L Brikson and H Malemnganba beat IW pair Kasprov Ahanthem and Th Ronel 21-16, 21-18; Bpr-IW pair of O Aimson and Rana Kumar Boruah beat Kakching pair of M Bikash and N Roshan 21-18, 21-18; IW-Tbl pair of Kh Punshiba and Unilkumar edged out Bpr-IW pair of Kh Amajirt and N Siamond Kumar 21-23, 21-13, 21-14; Kak-IE pair of Punshiba Y and Sirzeet M outclassed Kamjong pair of As Khangampam and Paochundibou Newmai 21-13, 21-8 and Bishnupur pair of H Rohenkumar and RK Alen humbled IW-IE pair of Kapilchandra Ch and N Nandaraj 21-11, 21-15 .
U-15 Boys singles
The semi-final line up of the U-15 boys singles competition was also completed today.
Imphal West's Ch Bose will play Martin Ingudam of Bishnupur district in the first semi-final match while Sushanta M of Kakching will play L Luwangamba of Imphal West in the other semi-final match.
Ch Bose entered the semi-final with a 15-21, 23-21, 21-19 comeback win over L Kalo Truman of Senapati in the first quarter final match while Martin reached the semis with a 21-17, 21-15 win over S Shyamchandra of Imphal West in another quarter final clash.
In the third quarter final clash, Sushanta M knocked out L Nongdamba of IW 21-8, 21-10 before L Luwangamba overcame S Pinibash of Thoubal 20-22, 21-13, 21-12 in the penultimate quarter final clash.
U-15 Girls Singles
The day also saw Leonie Tayenjam, Chanulembi Sapam and Ch Bellarix Devi of Imphal West reach the semi-final stage as Imphal East's M Rebika sealed the remaining berth.
Leonie stormed into the semis with a comfortable 21-4, 21-6 win over Rajkumar Irina of Imphal East in the first quarter final match before Chanulembi Sapam had a hard fought 21-18, 19-21, 21-16 win over L Nandita Devi of Imphal East in the second quarter final match.
In the third quarter final match, M Rebika Devi beat Imphal West's Angom Lanchenbi 21-18, 21-18 while Ch Bellarix overwhelmed A Devika 21-6, 21-18 .
