Kuki mob torches 2 buses on NH-2

Imphal, July 25 2023:
A large number of Kuki people torched two buses used by Rapid Action Force (RAF) at Sapormeina along National Highway 2 in Kangpokpi district today at around 6.30 pm .
The buses were returning from Dimapur.
According to official sources, a team of CRPF and RAF left Imphal for Dimapur in 64 vehicles yesterday.
The convoy included 15 buses, 10 trucks, five LMV (Light Motor Vehicles) and 34 vehicles belonging to Mantripukhri CRPF headed to Dimapur to bring 10 companies of RAF to the State.
The convoy was reportedly detained by a large number of Kuki at Sapormeina to check if there were any Meiteis onboard.
Amid distraction by the mob, two buses occupied by RAF were burnt by some from among the mob.
The two burnt buses had Manipur registration numbers viz MN-05C/0086 and MN-04P/1476 .
Another source said that the whereabouts of the drivers of the two buses Md Rashid and Md Tomba who were allegedly abandoned by RAF are still not known.
It is further said that the two ill-fated buses were earlier used by the RAF in Kangpokpi district.
The two buses were in the custody of Kangpokpi police for quite some time after Kuki militants detained and vandalised it.
