Imphal, November 04 2026:
The Manipur Naga Youth Organisation (MNYO) has written to the Director General of Police (DGP) asking the Police Department to secure highways and ensure safety and security of commuters including transporters.
In its letter to the DGP, the MNYO said that the Police Department should formulate and implement a comprehensive security protection plan to restore public confidence, ensure safe and uninterrupted movement of commuters and transporters, and prevent any further loss of innocent lives.
"Security arrangements must be robust, proactive and sustained rather than merely reactive to unfortunate incidents," it said.
The MNYO said that the recent gunfight at Tazeikaiphun village under Nungba police station, Noney district, on October 31 which resulted in casualties has triggered widespread fear and insecurity among the public, especially commuters travelling along National Highway No 37 .
The situation has raised serious concerns over the safety of passengers and transporters, who are bringing in essential commodities and other goods on the vital National Highway, it added.
The Police Department must therefore take immediate and proactive measures to strengthen security arrangements along NH-37 and the Bishnupur-Tupul Road, particularly at vulnerable Kuki dominated stretches through deployment of adequate security personnel, establishment of additional security outposts and intensified patrolling and surveillance, the MNYO said.
There have been reports of alleged threats circulating on social media, purportedly issued by unidentified Kuki elements warning of attacks on any vehicle plying along these highways.
Such threatening messages have often been precursors to indiscriminate firing by armed Kuki militants, it said, asking the DGP to treat the matter with utmost urgency in the larger interest of public safety, peace and security in the State.
