At least 11 women agitators wounded when police used tear gas and other mob dispersion devises in quelling agitators storming Patsoi police station demanding immediate release of two members of agitating Yurembam Patsoi, Tabungkhok land Protection Demand Committee.
Eleven more women taking part in the protest also detained the police.
The womenfolk of Yurembam and its surrounding areas rose up as police rounded up Laishram Halen (42), joint secretary of agitating JAC and executive member Sapam Rajen.
Police conducting cordon search operations in the area this morning rounded up them.
Locals said that police commandos conducted the search operation after keeping cordon the villages from yesterday afternoon, at about 3.30 pm.
Irate over the rounding of the members of the JAC, womenfolk of the area rose up at about 1 pm and marched towards the Patsoi police station demanding immediate release of the two and demanded detention of them too.
When the womenfolk closed to the police station, they confronted with the women police personnel at the police station.
In order to control the outnumber women compared to the women police personnel, police opened fired tear gas and mob bombs to prevent them from storming the police station.
In the police action, several women sustained injuries among which 11 of them hospitalized at RIMS.
After a brief battling, police detained 11 of them.
Residents of Yurembam and its surrounding villages in Imphal west district were protesting for the last around two weeks since March 26 against the government land acquisition move for upgradation of a 135 KV power sub-station into a 400 KV one at Yurembam.
