Imphal, January 05 2024:
Reacting against the proposed Mechanised Rotary Parking for two and four wheelers to be set up on Irabot road under the initiative of MAHUD department, CPI Manipur State Council has threatened to launch intense agitation if the proposal is implemented forcefully.
Addressing media persons in this regard at its Irabot Bhawan office, here, on Friday, CPI Manipur State Council former secretary L Sotinkumar said that the surrounding road of Rupmahal Tank area which has around 200 shops with a population of around 2000 Was named Irabot Road by the then Municipal Board in 1980.Since then, the 12-feet wide road has been serving as a major road.
While recalling the incident where volunteers of CPI launched agitations when a plan for constructing shops on the western side of the road was initiated, Sotinkumar said that an order of PDA issued recently for setting up of a mechanised rotary parking under the Imphal Smart City programme at four different parts of the state including Nagamapal bridge, Ima Keithel Irabot Road, Sanjenthong and Secured Office Complex at North AOC.
The step of the state government in connection with the proposed parking at Ima Keithel Irabot road will create huge problems to the shop runners and residents of the area.
Therefore, the initiative of the government will be opposed by CPI with a complaint letter has already submitted to minister and commissioner concerned.
He also said that the road which has been named Irabot road as a mark of respect to Lamyanba Hijam Irabot is in a pathetic condition for quite long with the same area converted into Sunday market.
Instead of repairing and maintaining the road, the government has decided to abolish it and construct a mechanised rotary parking which is very unfortunate, he lamented.
