Manipur clinch U-16 boys' Vijay Merchant Trophy title

Danish starred with 10 scalps as Manipur demolished Meghalaya by an innings and 35 runs to win the U-16 boys' Vijay Merchant Trophy 2023-24 Plate Group tittle at Keenan Stadium, Jamshedpur on Friday.
In the three-day match that began on Wednesday, Meghalaya won the toss and elected to bat.
They could only manage 111 all out as only RS Rathor (49), H Ryngkhlem (26) and GJ Thakuria got into double digits in their first innings.
Manipur's terrific bowling display saw Danish dazzle with a five-wicket haul while Naesh impressed with four scalps and Y Achouba took one.
The state boys then amassed 293/10 to take a commanding 182-run first innings lead.
Sougaijam shone with the bat in the innings, scoring 154 not out.
Other key contributors to Manipur's score were Naesh (29) and Thomsan (24).For Meghalaya, A Marak and Ak Lohar claimed two wickets each, GJ Thakuria took two, and Bj Makdoh and P Ali bagged one each.
In their second innings, Meghalaya failed to improve as they were bowled out for 147 to suffer an innings and 35 runs defeat.
D Nandi (55) scored the most runs in the innings, followed by GJ Thakuria (23), RS Rathor (19) and S Roy (10).Danish was at it again for Manipur.
He ripped apart Meghalaya's batting order, producing a repeat of his earlier lethal spell by taking another five wickets to finish with a stunning haul of 10 wickets in the final match.
Donba, on the other hand, picked up three wickets with Naesh and Y Achouba chipping in with one wicket apiece in Manipur's dominant title triumph.
