Imphal, January 05 2024:
Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur and All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) strongly condemned the registration of FIR against Meira Paibi members for opposing establishment of camp of central forces in their localities, and demanded the government to quash the FIR at the earliest.
Addressing a joint press meet at AMUCO office, Kwakeithel Akham Leikai here on Friday, AMAWOVA president Y Kunjarani said that Assam Rifles and Indian Army should understand the public sentiment when they stood against them.
People of the state have been suffering for the last eight months due to the current crisis.
There are tens of thousands of central security forces deployed in the state in the name of controlling the crisis.
Not only have they failed to control the crisis, but the way they are responding to the situation is unacceptable to the public.
Such conduct of the central security forces are the reason behind the demand for withdrawal of Assam Rifles and central security forces from the state, she reasoned.
Kunjarani also alleged that central security forces are not doing enough to stop the violence and showing biased attitude as well.
Instead of stopping the gunfights, the government is trying to deploy them in peaceful areas, which only creates confusion and suspicion among the people, and both the Meira Paibi Lups are against such policies, she said.
Shockingly, an FIR was registered against 12 Meira Paibi members of Wangoo Sagang area for opposing deployment of central security forces in the village area.
Though the FIR may be against 12 people but it is akin to registering FIR against the whole Meira Paibi members of the state, which is unacceptable, the president maintained.
She also termed the FIR as an attempt to suppress the voice of the public and also a threat to the whole Manipuri people.
Demanding the government to quash the FIR at the earliest, she called upon the people of the state to take a united stand against such atrocities and suppression of public voices.
